On the 15th of November, 2012, ACO and the Europe China Institute of Nyenrode Business University jointly hosted a seminar by prof. Keyong Dong. Prof. Dong is the dean and a professor at the School of Public Administration at Renmin University China and is the Vice President of China’s Public Administrtion Society. His seminar touch upon the issues of social security development, social inequality, and the main challenges of pensions in China.

27 Jan. 2012 – Dutch Ambassadors’ Conference and Inaugural Address of prof. dr.ir. P.P.S. Ho

On 27 January 2012, the Academic China Meeting (ACO) co-hosted the morning program of the Dutch Ambassadors’ Conference and the inaugural address by the new Director and Chair of Chinese Economy and Development Prof. Dr. Ir. Peter Ho.

The morning started off with a closed session for the Ambassadors’ Conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The conference brought together a great number of Dutch ambassadors stationed in Asia, as well as close to 300 invited participants, from all different parts of society: government, business, media and NGOs. The conference was mainly focused on Western perceptions of Asia.

Later during the day, the open session started. Prof. Ho’s inaugural ceremony was held in the Great Auditorium of the Academy Building of Leiden University. The ceremony started at 12.00, with a welcome speech. Subsequently, Prof. Ho delivered his inaugural address entitled: “Will China save Europe or collapse? Misconceptions and Economic Stability.” In connection with this festive occasion, ACO together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Modern East Asia Research Centre (MEARC) hosted the conference “Asia’s Century: Prejudices, Perceptions and Perspectives.”

At the conference, there has been a keynote lecture by Rem Koolhaas (architect and founder of the Office of Metropolitan Architecture). Furthermore, various other distinguished guests have participated and presented, including Laurens-Jan Brinkhorst (MEARC Patron and former Minister of Economic Affairs), Pieter Elbers (Chief Operating Officer of KLM), Prof. Peter van Lieshout (Councilor of Scientific Council for Government Policy WRR), and Dorine Burmanje (Chair Governing Board of National Cadastre).
