24 May 2011 – MEARC & ACO Collaboration Event: “Sustainability and Development”: Governance, Climate Change and Farmer Responses in China
On May 24th, 2011, MEARC and ACO co-hosted several lectures, readings and discussions on the effectiveness of existing governance structures for achieving adaptation to climate change in China, as well as farmer responses. The speakers at this event were: Dr. Hao Li, Cecile Fameree and Irna Hofman.

3 Feb. 2011 – ACO-meeting: “China’s Five Year Plans: Looking Back and Looking Ahead”
On February 3rd, 2011, Clingendael Asia Studies and MEARC (Modern East Asia Research Centre) of Leiden University have arranged an ACO event on China’s 12th Five-Year Plan. The program consisted of closed, expert roundtables in the morning and and a public session in the afternoon. Speakers at the public session included: Dirk-Jan van den Berg, former ambassador to China, and current Chairman of the Executive Board of TU Delft and Chairman of the International Steering Committee of the VSNU, and Mrs. Ing Joe Tan member of the Dutch Senate.
The event concluded with the book launch of the ACO publication Paradoxal China: Western Perceptions, Eastern Realities, to which many of our ACO members have contributed.
